GROTON, Conn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball program extended its win streak to four netting a 31-point victory over NJCAA-opponent UConn-Avery Point on the road Wednesday, Jan. 8.

SMCC outscored the opposition by six in the first quarter and led by 10 at the break. The SeaWolves gained separation in the third totaling 23 points to get ahead 67-48. SMCC continued to put the pressure on and finish 96-65 to pick up its sixth road victory of the year.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "Yesterday was an exciting game where we saw freshman Aija Andrews go for a career high 28 points! The road result featured four in double figures—a real team win. We welcomed back captain standout Amanda Brett who chipped in 21 and benefited from a combined seven three-pointers from our rookie backcourt. Now the focus turns to this weekend."

SMCC gets to 14-2 overall, tied for the most wins among United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 2 programs, and remains 7-2 in conference play. Avery Point dips to 7-3 overall.

The Lady SeaWolves are back in action Sunday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Bunker Hill Community College for a matinee tip beginning at 1 p.m.
