Mustangs shutdown Knights

Auburn, ME - The CMCC Mustangs welcomed the VT Tech Knights to Auburn for a conference game.

The Mustangs were looking to extend their unbeaten streak in conference play and started the game on the front foot. CMCC had the majority or possession but were unable to convert this into the go ahead goal.

With 17 minnutes gone in the first half Mosses Lumu entered the game. The tactical switch paid immediate dividends as with his first possession Lumu received the ball in midfield before playing a penetrating pass forward to Sasah Bruno who dribbled into the box before he shot low to the keepers right to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs had a series of corner kicks, testing the Knights defense on several occasions.  One such corner fell to the feet of Raimundo Lubota in the box who fed Isidoro Domingues a short pass. Domingues dribbled past 2 VT defenders before hitting a hard low shot to the bottom right of the goal, doubling the Mustangs lead with 24:07 left in the first half.  Despite further offensive pressure from CMCC there were no further scores in the first half.

With 33:10 on the clock in the second half Romano Bassa picked up the ball on the left wing. He dribbled inside taking on several Knight defenders before taking a low shot that the Knights keeper could only parry into the path of Shaheen Ekal. Ekal finished into the open net to tally his first goal of the season and bring the score to 3-0.

A change in formation for the Mustangs allowed captain Levi Little to find space on the right wing. He drove forward into space playing a pass to Mosses Lumu on the right edge of the box. A nice scissor by Lumu created space for a shot which he hit hard and low beyond the keepers reach. This was also Lumu's first of the season.

The final score of the game to make it 5-0 came with 11:41 left on the clock. Abdifatah Yusuff won the ball in the attacking third before feeding a through ball to Ivan Domingues to finish low under the VT Knights keeper. With that play Yusuff tallied his 7th assist of the season, and Domingues his 4th goal.

With the win the Mustangs move to 2-0-1 in conference play and 5-1-2 for the season. VT Tech falls to 0-5 in the conference and 0-11 overall.

Up next for the Mustangs is a conference game this Monday at NHTI.
