New Kensington baseball defeated by Fayette

TARENTUM, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington's baseball team was defeated in its first conference game Sunday, 15-3, by Penn State Fayette. New Kensington moves back 0-1 in conference play and 0-3 overall.  

Two doubles in the first inning helped Fayette gain an early advantage over New Kensington, ending the inning ahead 3-0.

New Kensington saw its first run during the bottom of the second after Braden Tristani (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) was brought home off the bat of Jordan Witcher (District Heights, Md./Largo).  

Fayette continued to build on their lead, going into the sixth inning up 9-1.

Tallon Auth (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) lead off the bottom of the sixth with a single to third base, and advanced to second on a base hit from Witcher. Mario Gomez (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) followed up with a single of his own, bringing home Auth. Gomez later scored on a Max Oliveri (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) double to left field. At the end of the inning, New Kensington was still down, 9-3  

Fayette widened the gap with six more runs in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 15-3

Oliveri went 3-for-4, including his RBI double and Gomez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. 

New Kensington faces off with Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, March 20 for its second conference game of the season. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
