Front Royal, VA – Christendom Crusader Women's Basketball continue their win streak with a decisive 71-41 win against the Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lions at home on Wednesday, February 1st.
The Crusaders struggled from the field to beginning the game, however, their defense kept Mont Alto scoreless until late in the first quarter. The score was 12-3 going into the second quarter and the Crusaders maintained their lead for the rest of the half. The Nittany Lions were able to keep it close with a three to end the half. After an impressive defensive effort, the Crusaders took a 32-17 lead into the half.
Determined to start the third quarter strong, the Crusaders played tough defense and started to click on offense, outscoring Mont Alto 20-10 in the third. The Crusaders extended their lead in the fourth quarter by breaking Mont Alto's press with ease. Bridget McCaughey (Sophomore/Nashville, TN) came alive, hitting two short-corner jump shots and adding two more at the line. Catherine Thomas (Sophomore/Portland, TX) finished a long two through a hard foul and Regina Bonvissuto (Sophomore/Kingston, TN) hit a 3-pointer late in the game which brought the lead to 69-41. The team added two more before the end, giving them the 71-41 victory.
Bonvissuto and Thomas led all scorers, both finishing with 15 points. Miranda Keller (Sophomore/Harrisburg, PA) had another double-double, leading the team in rebounds with 15, while also scoring 11 points. Thomas finished with a double-double as well as she pulled in 10 rebounds to go along with her 15 points.
