Baseball Drops Matchup Against Cairn

LANGHORNE, PA - Penn State Schuylkill Baseball Fell to NCAA D3 Opponent Cairn University in 9 innings, 9-6.

A double to left center at the bottom of the 3rd inning led to a Cairn score, the first points of the game for either team. Cairn scored once again a few plays later due to an error to take a 2-0 lead going into the 4th inning.

Owen Shoop (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) got things started for Schuylkill in the 4th inning as he doubled to left center after two Schuylkill outs. Shoop then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. With Schuylkill in position to score, Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) singled up the middle, leading to a Shoop run.

A triple with bases loaded for Cairn at the bottom of the 5th inning extended their lead to 5-1. Cairn carried over their momentum to the 5th inning as they connected on a total of five hits which ultimately led to four runs.

Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary) doubled to left field at the top of the 9th inning, leading to two Schuylkill runs to make the score 9-3. A Cairn error led to another Schuylkill run to cut the deficit to five. Chris Duffy (Perkasie, PA / Lansdale) singled through the left side plays later, leading to Schuylkill's fourth run of the frame and bringing their deficit to 9-5 heading into the 9th inning.

Schuylkill continued to show signs of fight during the 9th inning as a Brayden Kamp (Shartlesville, PA / Hamburg) single led to another Schuylkill run. Schuylkill received their third out on the next play, leading to a 9-6 Cairn win.

Kaminski finished 2-3 at bat with two doubles and two RBIs. Shoop and Kamp also finished with doubles for Schuylkill.
