SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team won in a tight game at home against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), 56-50, on Sunday, January 22.

The Seawolves clung to a lead throughout the game but never by more than 10 points. With a little over a minute to go in the second half, the Panthers came within four points of the Seawolves, but SMCC was able to hold on at the free-throw line to claim a 6-point result. It was a valiant effort put in by the Panthers who still have yet to win a conference game this season.

Senior Captain Desean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) was the highest scoring player for the Seawolves, finishing the game with 17 points and seven rebounds. First-Year Luke Briggs (Augusta, Maine) and sophomore Luke Gabloff (North Yarmouth, Maine) finished the game with seven points apiece.

ACPHS' leaders were Edgard Matias, with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Brett Richards, with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

SMCC extends its win streak to eight and improves to 15-4 overall, 7-2 in league play.

The men play next at home on Wednesday, January 25 against the University of Maine-Augusta. Tip-off at The HUB is set for 8:00 p.m.
