SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Lynx from NHTI 93-27 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) meeting at The HUB Wednesday, Dec. 4.

First-year Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) totaled a double-double and led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) netted 16 points on 17 shot attempts—29 points away from the all-time career scoring record in program history. First-year center Elise Hebert (Arundel, Maine) dropped eight points and added a career high 21 rebounds, 10 on the offensive glass.

Brooklyn Zanis led the Lynx with eight points and four rebounds.

It was never a doubt as SMCC held a comfortable advantage for the entirety, shooting 38 percent from the field on 100 shot attempts. The SeaWolves tallied 25 assists and grabbed 87 rebounds—a season high.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "NHTI is a great program stacked with excellent guards—we knew our defense was going to be the key. We had a clear height advantage but that also meant our forwards were going to have to defend the three-point line which they are not necessarily used to. As they do every game, this team far exceeded my expectations. Tara and Ashleigh's defense on Biron was phenomenal—one of the best players in our conference. Elise, Aija, and Bailey continue to step up in big ways for us—they combined for 20 points and 36 rebounds, Elise having 21 rebounds! We are excited to continue this wave of defensive intensity and offensive execution as we finish up the semester."

The SeaWolves get to 10-0 overall, and 6-0 in conference action. NHTI slips to 2-6 on the year, 2-5 in the Yankee standings.
