Softball sweeps Fayette on Senior Day

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 8, Penn State Fayette 0 (F/5 innings)

 

Mont Alto utilized a balanced scoring attack to defeat Penn State Fayette by a final of 8-0 in five innings during game one of Sunday's doubleheader. Before the game, Penn State Mont Alto honored senior catcher Payton Watkins during Senior Day festivities. 

 

Mont Alto scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning as McKenna Sas had the big hit of the inning, hitting a home run and bringing in Kirsten Dell who reached base via walk to lead off the inning. Kirsten Dell hit the second home run of the game for Mont Alto the following inning, a solo shot to push the lead to 3-0 after two innings.

 

The home team would extend the lead to six after the third inning as Destiny Hall, Rachel Alleman, Emily Sicinski and Sierra Sims each recorded hits in the bottom of the third inning. Mont Alto pushed the lead to eight in the bottom of the fourth inning as Abigail Cunningham scored two runs on her RBI double. 

 

Delaney Glazer picked up her ninth win of the season as she went five innings, striking out five and allowing just five hits.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 4, Penn State Fayette 3 (F/8 innings)

Mont Alto overcame a 3-0 deficit in the latter innings to cross three in the bottom of the seventh inning and the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to sweep the doubleheader against Penn State Fayette.

 

Cassidy Uphold got Fayette on top early with a RBI single in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0. Fayette would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning when Summer Hawk hit a double to left field which scored Carissa Caldwell and Lauren Minerd. Fayette led 3-0 after four innings.

 

Emily Sicinski plated two runs on her RBI single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dani-Lynn Barklow would later tie the score with a base hit to center field. 

 

After Penn State Fayette failed to scratch across a run in the top of the eighth, Penn State Mont Alto would walk off the second game on a base hit by Sierra Sims which plated Abigail Cunningham.

 

Kirsten Dell pitched eight innings in the winning effort, striking out four batters and picked up her eighth win of the season.
