Penn State Scranton Men’s Soccer Falls to Brandywine

By: Ross Turetsky, Penn State Scranton Athletics

On a chilly Monday home matinee on the pitch, the Penn State Scranton men's soccer squad lost 21-0 to conference foe Penn State Brandywine's dominant effort. With the tough defeat, Scranton's overall record now stands at 0-8 and 0-6 in the all-important conference play.

The road warriors from Penn State Brandywine got off to an awe-inspiring start in the first 45 minutes of play, as they scored 18 goals in the first half, before being held to just three goals in the second half action. Brandywine was led by their stand-out forward Chris Manful, as he scored a game-high seven goals on the day. Brandywine also had stellar two goal performances from Ethan Simpson, Dakari Burton, Robbie Warren, and Jayden Barragan in the match. Last but certainly not least, six players scored lone goals in the showdown, as Mateo Loyo, Raymond Kelly, Lex Smith, Sammy Amin, Hecton Gontee, and Francis Sarpong all lit the lamp.

As for the goalkeeping side of things, Brandywine was led by their starting goaltender Patrick Corley who pitched a shutout while playing the entire 90 minutes in the contest, as Scranton only had one shot on goal for the whole game by their solid sophomore forward Raphael Carvalho. Meanwhile for Scranton, they split the goaltending duties fifty/fifty, as sophomore captain Connor Tone stopped four of the seven shots on goal he faced in his 45 minutes between the pipes. For the other 45 minutes of action, fellow sophomore goalie Erick Alonso made seven stops out of the whopping 25 shots on goal he faced on the day.

Now head coach Joe Baltrusaitis and his Penn State Scranton men's soccer club will look to bounce back and clinch their first win on the season in their next contest, as they are on the road at conference rival Penn State York next Wednesday, October 12th, at 4pm, as only three games remain on their season.
