
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Women's Basketball fell to the University of Maine-Augusta (UMA) 80-44 in a YSCC matchup on Tuesday evening at the HUB Athletics Center.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves struggled offensively, shooting just 24.6% from the field, while UMA capitalized on its opportunities, led by Bella Petrocci's 29-point effort. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Skyler Tinker (Lubec, Maine) added 9 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, and Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) contributed 9 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMA set the tone early, jumping out to a 24-13 lead after the first quarter, fueled by Petrocci's shooting and Sage Fortin's playmaking. SMCC worked to stay within striking distance in the second quarter, however, UMA's defensive pressure forced turnovers, leading to fast-break opportunities and a 40-27 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Seawolves attempted to mount a comeback, with Tinker converting in the paint and Thorsen providing a spark off the bench. UMA responded with balanced scoring, led by Petrocci who finished the game with 29 points sinking eight three-pointers on 61% shooting from beyond the arc. Fortin added 23 points, ultimately sealing the win for UMA.
