Fayette splits series with Greater Allegheny 2-2

Lemont Furnace, PA - Penn State Fayette splits four game series with Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Baseball had a rough start on the road in this series against Greater Allegheny, losing 10-0, with only one hit from Dylan Bohna. However, Fayette bounced back quickly for the second game of the series with a win of 11-10. AJ Segarra showed up big in many ways of the 7 inning game with 1 homerun, 2 runs, 3 hits and 3 RBIs, but also getting 4 strike outs at the mound. Sunday afternoon it was Fayette's turn to host the double header to close out the series. Fayette came out on fire with a 7-2 victory over G.A. Andrew Despot and Conner Vig led the charge with 2 runs and 2 hits each. For the second game at home Fayette once again came out on fire, leading the game 6-2 heading into the top of the fifth inning. Unfortunately, Fayette struggled to hold on for the final game of the series, letting Greater Allegheny score 5 runs in the sixth and 1 in the seventh. The final score of the last game of the series resulted in a 8-6 loss.

Coach Ryan Encapera shared his thoughts on the series,"Our guys battled a hard fought series with GA where every at bat and play mattered. In game 1 their starter Limon, shut us down and 1 hit us. In game 2 our bats came alive and got us an early lead. Starting pitcher Auggie Segarra was able to keep us in it and helped himself with 3 hits and 3 RBI. He also picked up the win in a gutsy effort. We showed toughness when we gave up the lead but then took it right back. In game 3 Jorge Palmas had another strong outing limiting them to 4 hits and keeping them off balance. Johnny Ioannou's 2Run HR in the 6th put the game away and opened up what was a close game. Game 4- After getting the 6-2 lead GA took advantage of some free bases and used it to get ahead of us. In the end we just didn't score enough to win. We played well enough to win but couldn't finish."

Fayette will take on Penn State Mont Alto at home for "Senior Day" on Saturday, April 22. Coach Ryan commented on the upcoming Mont Alto games, "Our guys will be ready to play next week vs Mont Alto and will do everything we can to prepare and compete."
