Softball Splits with Penn State Scranton

Newtown, PA. The Bucks Softball team had its home opener on Tuesday afternoon and it was a day of first. The first college game of new head coach, Meagan Finnerty. It was the teams first home game since the 2019 season and it was the teams first win of the season. The Centurions split their double header with USCAA opponent, Penn State Scranton winning the first game by a score of 10-1 and dropping the second by a score of 13-4 on March 22, 2023.

Game 1: Bucks defeated Scranton 10-1 in game 1 thanks to a timely six runs in a big second inning.The Centurions big bats in in the inning werel ed by singles by Midison Hower, Jess Kepner, and Allie Micklo, a groundout by Bria Keiper, and a double by Shana Gugliando.

Kat Hastings recorded the win from the mound. Hastings lasted five innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven.

Bucks collected nine hits including Gugliandolo, who went 3 for 3 at the plate and Hower each racked up multiple hits for the game.

Game 2: The Centurions lost the second game 13-4.  The game was tied at four with Penn State Scranton batting in the top of the fifth when when Bucks walked in a run for the Nittany Lions to give them the lead.

Bucks did manage to out hit the guest 8 to 6 but the score didn't reflect the advantage.

Jules Winget took the loss for Bucks. The southpaw surrended eight runs on fours hits over four innings, striking out three.

Bucks Centurions Softball totaled eight hits in the game.  Madison Croushore and Kat Hastings each had multiple hits for the Centurions. Croushore led Bucks Centurions Softball with three hits in four at bats.

The results bring the Centurions to a record of 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the USCAA while PS Scranton now has a record of 3-3 and USCAA record of 3-1. Bucks next game is at home on Sunday, March 26 as they host Raritan Valley Community College in a double header with the first game starting at 12:00PM.
