Mustangs struggle, but prevail over UMA

Augusta, ME - CM led from start to finish in their first Yankee Small College Conference game of the season, defeating UMaine Augusta, 66-53. The Mustangs battled cold shooting and foul trouble all evening, but were never really threatened by the Moose, leading by as many as 22.

Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) led the Mustangs with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists in 29-minutes of action. Strachan connected on 13 of her 15 foul shots. Kali Thompson (Waterville, ME) and Destiny Mora Lopez (The Dalles, OR) both recorded double-doubles. Thompson finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 steals while Mora Lopez collected 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Alisyn Alley led the Moose with a game-high 21 points, while Mariah Dunbar scored 13.

Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) secured a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with 5 points, 4 steals, and 2 blocks.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the YSCC. They will be back in action this weekend, taking part in the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge in hosted by Word of Life in Pottersville, NY. On Friday, CM will play the Huskies of Word of Life, followed by a Saturday match-up with Berkeley (NY).
