Brandywine Races Past Lehigh Valley 90-80

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team earned its first conference victory of the season by defeating Penn State Lehigh Valley 90-80 on the road late Saturday night.

Brandywine knocked down four three-pointers during the game's opening four minutes to open up a 14-8 lead.

Lehigh Valley rallied to knot the score at 14-14, but Brandywine embarked on a 19-4 surge over the next 10 minutes to build a 15-point edge. The Lions received scoring from seven different players during the run, which was capped by a Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) layup at the 5:48 mark.

Colin Hockenbrock's (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) bucket with 26 seconds to go before the break gave the Lions' their biggest advantage of the half at 17 points before a pair of PSULV free throws made the count 45-30 at intermission.

Hockenbrock accounted for the first five points of the second period as the Lions' lead swelled to 20 points.

After the hosts trimmed the deficit to 15, Brandywine answered with nine-straight points over a three-minute stretch, giving the Lions their largest lead of the night at 63-39 with 11 minutes to play.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) topped the Lions in scoring with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Hockenbrock notched 19 points and eight boards. Tim Mattern (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) contributed 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Dillon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) added seven points and seven boards.

Brandywine shot 41 percent from the field and held a 51-45 edge on the boards, while draining 15 of its 16 attempts at the free throw stripe.

Brandywine (2-3, 1-1 PSUAC) hosts Neumann Tuesday night at 8:00 PM.
