Baseball Sweeps Season Series Against Penn State Hazleton

HAZLETON, PA - Penn State Schuylkill Baseball completed the season sweep of PSUAC opponent Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 6, Penn State Hazleton 2
A Brandywine player ran to home base successfully as his teammate grounded out to take a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the second inning.

A single by Jake Leininger (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove) at the top of the 3rd inning led to a Schuylkill run to even the score at 1-1. Hazleton had an answer at the bottom of the third as a single to left field led to a run, giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the 4th inning.

With second and third bases occupied by Schuylkill, Patrick Ryan (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville) doubled to left center, giving Schuylkill a 3-2 lead. Two runs late in the inning extended Schuylkill's lead to 5-2. A Ryan single to left field during the 7th inning led to another Schuylkill run as they went on to defeat Schuylkill, 6-2.

Ryan tallied 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Owen Zimmerman (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) finished with two hits. Austin Miller (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) won his matchup on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing only two runs.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 5, Penn State Hazleton 1

Schuylkill began the second contest 2-2 at bat following a single by Owen Kosar (Shenandoah, PA / Shenandoah Valley) and a double by Chase Herb (Hegins, PA / Tri-Valley). Kosar ran in for the score plays later following a Sac Fly by Zimmerman to take a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the 1st inning. Hazleton went on to even the score in similar fashion as a fly out led to a run to even the score at 1-1 after the 1st inning.

With Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary) at third base, Ryan Jarboe (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain) singled to right field, giving Schuylkill a 2-1 lead at the top of the second. Schuylkill's lead was extended to 4-1 after two runs due to errors.

A home run by Herb during the 7th inning sealed the deal for Schuylkill, as Schuylkill went on to defeat Hazleton in game 2, 5-1.

Herb finished with a home run, a double, and an RBI. Evan Kosar (Shenandoah / Shenandoah Valley) tallied two hits in the victory. Owen Shoop (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) had a strong showing on the mound, going six innings and only giving up two hits.

What's Next:

Schuylkill (9-3 overall, 4-0 PSUAC) will remain in conference play as they take on Penn State York on the road Saturday, April 1st in a doubleheader matchup. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
