Volleyball Comeback Falls Just Short at Husson

Bangor, ME – The Central Maine Community College women's volleyball team made a valiant comeback effort, but fell just short on the road against Husson University, losing 2-3 in five sets.

The Mustangs dropped the first two sets to the NCAA Division III Eagles, before rallying back to take sets three and four. That tied the match and sent things to a fifth and deciding set to try and complete the comeback.

Things stayed just at tight with the final set needing to go beyond the usual 15 points in the win-by-two format. The Eagles eventually eked out a 16-14 set victory to take the match three sets to two.

It was a good test against a more experienced team in Husson," said co-head coach Kevin Bean. "You could see the team growing, even during the match. There was no quit in them."

CMCC got good services from Natalie Roy and Keliah Stith to help the comeback effort. And Shalamar Szarka came through with several blocks and some great defensive plays to keep the ball alive.

"They fought really hard and showed what they're capable of," co-head coach Rachael Collins said.

The Mustangs will head back to NHTI this Saturday for a Yankee Small College Conference quad match. CMCC will take on Word of Life Bible Institute at 11 am in match one before facing Paul Smith's College in match two at 3 pm.
