Women's Basketball cruises to blowout win over GBCC

Auburn, ME - After a poor start to their game on Tuesday, the Mustangs were focused on dominating the first quarter. They did not disappoint, racing out to a 30-6 lead and not looking back in a 92-36 YSCC win over Great Bay Community College. The Mustangs had five players score in double-figures, and use their defensive versatility and offensive tempo to dominate the game.

Elizabeth Barrientos (Manchester, NH) recorded a career-high 18 points to go along with 7 rebounds on 69% (9-13) shooting. Mikenzie Melendez (Saco, ME) was hot from behind the arc again, hitting another five triples, to finish with 16 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) and Rayna Duzant (St. Albans, NY) each recorded 16 points (career-high). Strachan also recorded 4 rebounds and 4 steals, while Duzant collected a career-high 8 rebounds. Chantel Ouellette (Auburn, ME) was the fifth and final Mustang in double-figures, hitting for 12 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.

The Mustangs defense forced 37 turnovers, leading to 50 points. CM also won the battle on the boards with a +24 margin and dished out 26 assists on 40 made baskets.

Reigning USCAA National Player of the Week / YSCC Player of the Week, Mary Paradis, led the Herons with a game-high 25 points and 9 rebounds.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 17-2 overall and 9-0 in the Yankee Conference. They will be back in action this weekend with a pivotal home double-header. On Saturday, they take on UMaine Fort Kent, while on Sunday they host CCRI. Both games are slated to tip-off at 1:00pm.
