WARWICK, Rhode Island—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team defeated the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in Warwick on Sunday, January 8th. The Seawolves pulled through in a close game, winning 57-55.

The Seawolves finished the first half two points behind CCRI but managed to rally in the second half to outscore CCRI 34-30.

Sophomore Bode Meader (Gorham, Maine) recorded nine points on the game, which consisted of three 3-point shots. Sophomore captain Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) scored 11 points and sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Connecticut) led the team with 16.

Head Men's Basketball Coach, Matt Richards, mentioned that the team was a little rusty on the offensive end but played well defensively. He gave a shout-out to a couple of players specifically for performing well under pressure at the end of the game to take the win.

"Tommy really came up big for us. His play put us in the position where we had the ball late in the game for a chance to win and Cayman made a great play for the game winner."

With this win the Seawolves now have a 5-game winning streak and a 12-4 overall record; their conference record remains 5-2.

The Seawolves play next at home against MassBay Community College on Saturday, January 14, and then again at home on Sunday, January 15, against UCONN at Avery Point. Tip-offs are at 1:00pm and 3:00pm respectively.
