Moose start strong, hold on for road victory

Newton, MA - The Moose hit the road for the first time this year to square off against Division III opponent Lasell University. They came out strong seeing all five starters record points in the opening period including converting on 11 of 14 (78.6%) from the foul line.

 

The Moose got the scoring going early with two foul shots from Kaeti Butterfield followed by a big three by Mariah Dunbar less then two minutes into the game. Down by 4 points with 1:46 remaining Alisyn Alley converted on two from the foul line and then saw another basketball from Mariah Dunbar to tie the game. Dunbar then went 1-2 from the foul line to put the Moose up 17-16. Desirae Dumais made a lay up to extend the lead to three. This was then followed by Alisyn Alley making 3-4 foul shots from the foul line to extend the lead to 22-16 and continue what ended up being a 10-0 run to close out the final 1:46 of the first quarter. UMA held onto the lead and went into halftime up by 4, 37-33. Lasell came back with a strong 3rd period effort and took a 2 point lead into the final period. In the fourth quarter the Moose continued to battle saw Lasell hit a 3 pointer with 3:47 remaining in the game to give them a three point advantage. The Moose took a 13-6 run to close out the final period, capped by Alisyn Alley accounting for 7 of those final 13 points. Kaeti Butterfield closed out the game for the Moose with a defensive rebound with 9 seconds left and converted on both foul shots from the line to out the Moose up  74-70 with 5 seconds remaining.

 

Leading the charge for the Moose was Alisyn Alley 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals. Desirae Dumas added 17 points and 7 rebounds and Mariah Dunbar with 11 points. The Moose improve to 2-2 on the season and get back at it on Wednesday November 16th when they host SMCC at the Augusta Civic Center. Tip off is scheduled for 6pm.
