HAZLETON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Volleyball fell in the PSUAC quarterfinal round to Penn State Hazleton.
An early Hazleton rally was halted by the efforts of Mahea Kelley (Bowie, MD / Bowie) and Ava Seltzer (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven), who both delivered aces, with Seltzer adding a kill. Contributing additional kills in the first set for Schuylkill were Maddy Robinson (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain), Sydney Morton (Norfolk, VA / Gateway Christian Academy), and Tajae Stevenson (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy). After Seltzer's ace narrowed Schuylkill's deficit to 17-14, Hazleton regained momentum and secured the first set.
Kelley opened the second set with a kill, but it was quickly countered by a 6-0 surge from Hazleton, who held the lead for the remainder of the set.
Down 5-1 at the start of the third set, Schuylkill responded with a 7-3 run, highlighted by a kill from Morton to level the score at 8-8. A brief three-point streak by Hazleton came to an end following a service error on their part. Schuylkill then launched an 8-3 run, claiming a 16-14 advantage, with contributions from Seltzer, Robinson, and Kelley adding crucial kills.
With momentum shifting back and forth in the final moments, a kill from Morton tied the score at 20-20. Hazleton answered with a decisive 4-0 stretch, reaching a 24-20 lead. Robinson managed one final kill before Hazleton delivered the winning kill to end the match.
Robinson led the team in kills (5), digs (14), and blocks (2). Morton, Stevenson, and Kelley finished with three kills each for Schuylkill. Ryliegh Sinko (Minersville, PA / Nativity BVM), Addie Stagon (Claysville, PA / McGuffey), and Tiffany Bohner (Hegins, PA / Tri Valley) tallied 11 digs each while Kelley finished with 12. Sinko ended the game with a team-high 12 assists.
