Paul Smiths, NY ~ On Friday night in the Saunders Gymnasium the Paul Smith's College men's basketball team battled back from a 16-point deficit but came up just short, losing by at score of 76-70. Playing in the second semi-final game of the Battle of the Adirondacks Tip Off Tournament, the Bobcats clawed back and showed their salt against a talented team from Clinton Community College.
Junior winger George Browning (Piscataway, NJ) pulled down an impressive 17 rebounds against the Cougars and added eight points. Also impacting the game was starting guard Steven Solórzano (Queens, NY), who, despite blanking from the field, added seven assists as the Bobcats' main playmaker. Kareem Chapman (Bronx, NY) led the way offensively with 17 points.
The next night in the consolation game against the Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies the Bobcats would not be denied. They built on the strong second half from Friday's game and dropped 76 points on the visitors with 41% shooting to win by 13. Sayvion Daniel (Roosevelt, NY) led the way with 16 points, followed by Chapman with 15, Browning with 14, and Senior guard Anthony Miller Jr. (New Haven, CT) with 13. Browning earned his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
When asked about the game, Head Coach Josh Clemens remarked on the number of returners and upperclassmen on the team. "It was a good opening weekend for us as players adjust to their new roles," said Clemens. "We have 15 returners and two Junior transfers, so we are excited to have a veteran team who are familiar with our system and identity."
The Bobcats head to Canton, NY Tuesday, September 8th to play the Division III SUNY Canton Kangaroos at 7pm at the Roos House.
