
MEN'S BASKETBALL HOLD OFF HORNETS IN FIRST ROUND OF VTSU CLASSIC
Randolph Center, VT: Vermont State University- Randolph hosted the Hornets from VTSU- Lyndon in Day 1 of the Vermont State Tip-Off Classic. In a tale of two halves that saw the first dominated by Randolph, and the second by Lyndon, the Knights were able to hold off the Hornets for a 72-66 win and a berth in the tournament championship game.
Game Notes
- The Knights led by as many as 26 in the first half, after Lyndon went scoreless for 8 minutes.
- The Hornets made a furious comeback pulling within two with 1:24 left in the game.
Key Players
- Xzavier Ivey led a balanced Randolph attack with 15 points. Jaden Clark added 13 points, and Mohamed Conde posted a double double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Jaylon Calvin also reached double figures with ten points and dished out seven assists.
- Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) scored a game high 23 points to lead Lyndon. Gonyea also dished out a team high five assists. Frehsman guards Christian Harthorn (Wilder, VT) and Victor Kukta Reyes (Fitchburg, MA) also reached double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively. Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) pulled down ten rebounds for the Hornets.
Next
The Knights will face Framingham State in the tournament championship at 3pm. Framingham survived a rally from Vermont State University- Johnson and pulled out a 96-94 overtime win. VTSU- Lyndon will face VTSU- Johnson at with the tip off at 1pm.
