Brandywine Drops Two At Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill handed Penn State Brandywine a pair of Penn State University Athletic Conference defeats, knocking off the Lions by scores of 4-3 and 12-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 4, Penn State Brandywine 3

Schuylkill walked off with a victory in its final at-bat to take the opener thanks to a game-winning single from Chase Herb.

All four batters reached safely in the bottom of the seventh for the hosts via a hit batter, an error and two singles.

Brandywine had rallied from three runs down, scoring all of its runs in the fifth inning. Kyle Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades) reached via error to start the frame and scored on Evan Abegg's (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) base hit. Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) followed with a double that pushed Abegg across home and two batters later, Wright came around to score when Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) delivered a two-out single.

Abegg recorded three of Brandywine's six hits, scored a run and drove in one, while Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) pitched all six innings, fanning two, and took the loss.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 12, Penn State Brandywine 2

Schuylkill earned the sweep of the first two games of the four-game series by winning game two by a 12-2 count.

Brandywine scored both of its runs during the first inning before yielding the final 12 runs to Schuylkill. Abegg and Wright tallied back-to-back, one-out singles before Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) followed with a base hit to score Abegg. One batter later, Webb's groundout was enough to score Wright.

Schuylkill took the lead with a four-run first inning and scored during each frame except for the fifth.

Wright collected half of Brandywine's six hits with a pair of singles and a double.

Brandywine (16-10, 7-3 PSUAC) and Schuylkill meet for the final two games of the series Monday at Maple Zone beginning at 5:00 PM.
