Volleyball Ends Non-Conference Slate With Loss vs UMFK

Auburn, ME – The CMCC volleyball team played its final non-conference match of the 2024 season on Saturday, losing to UMaine-Fort Kent in straight sets, 3-0.

The Bengals took five straight points in the opening set to turn a 4-4 tie into a 9-4 lead. The Mustangs once again struggled with service errors and trailed by a 20-12 scoreline late in the set. However, Central Maine would rally back to make things close.

Autumn Peterson split the back line with a powerful spike and Isabella Higgins forced a timeout with a kill off UMFK's fingertips that cut the deficit to 22-18. Fort Kent would regain their composure though and finished off the set from a Nathalia Cintron attack to take it 25-19.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair in the early stages, with CMCC keeping pace for a 9-9 tie thanks to some accurate attacks from Natalie Roy and Ryleigh Clark. The Bengals stretched a slim lead to 16-13, but then went on a run of points to go up 21-13 behind several great attacks from Maria Pena and Jamilyn Amina. Those two combined for the final point in a 25-15 second set win.

The Mustangs never really got a foothold in set number three, falling behind 9-4. UMFK handled some tough serves from Shalamar Szark and Keliah Stith to force a timeout with a 13-5 lead. The Bengals attack got into rhythm and never looked back, cruising to a 25-8 win to take the match.

CMCC now sits at 8-4 on the season and returns to its home court on Wednesday, October 9th to face rival SMCC at 6:00 pm. Central Maine is 8-2 in conference play and has three more matches remaining in the regular season.
