WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- Mont Alto volleyball opened the 2024 campaign with several matches against NCAA competition on Saturday morning. The defending two time USCAA National Championships swept matches against Penn College and Lycoming College. The squad dropped the middle match in three sets against Hartwick College to finish the day with a 2-1 record. Mont Alto will host Notre Dame (Md) on Thursday in their home opener.
Mont Alto 3, Penn College 0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-7)
Mont Alto opened the season with a three set sweep of Penn College. Gracie Vaughn led the attack with nine kills while Leslie Huckle and Abigail Wagner each added seven. Katie Sinks set up the attack with 21 assists. Ashlyn Vandenbree was the team leader in digs with 18 in the match. Sinks (8) and Vandenbree (7) combined for 15 service aces.
Hartwick College 3, Mont Alto 0 (25-27, 18-25, 15-25)
Following a tightly contested first set, Hartwick took the following two sets to sweep Mont Alto in the middle match of the day for the Nittany Lions. Gracie Vaughn had nine of Mont Alto's 24 kills. Sinks (15) and Zoey McCormack (5) helped set up the attack with a combined 20 of the team's 22 assists. Leslie Huckle paced the way with seven digs.
Mont Alto 3, Lycoming College 0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-14)
Mont Alto faced tough retaliation from Lycoming in the first two sets and went into cruise control to take set three 25-14 to finish with a 2-1 record on the day. Vaughn had a .320 hitting percentage in the match converting 11 of her 25 attack attempts. Huckle also had 11 kills on her 37 attack attempts. Sinks (18) and McCormack (15) had 33 of Mont Alto's 36 assists. Vandenbree (18) and Huckle (11) led the defensive efforts in digs for Mont Alto.
