SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was defeated by the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 74-62 at The HUB in part one of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rivalry on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

SMCC fell behind on the tip and never recovered the advantage. The SeaWolves made 22 of 63 shot attempts but out-rebounded the opposition by 20. The difference in the game was the turnover count, the Mustangs securing 25 points off SMCC give-a-ways.

CMCC logged a better total in all but one quarter, but the SeaWolves were persistent to keep it close. SMCC scored a lay-up to close its deficit to four points with six minutes remaining before the Mustangs opened it up with a 9-0 run to gain comfortable separation.

In the fourth quarter, junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) became the program's all-time scoring leader surpassing Hall of Famer Elizabeth Ouellette's 1140—finishing the game with 1144. Brett led all scorers in the game with 23 points, getting her fifth double-double of the season ripping 12 boards in the process.

First-year Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) netted 13 points on an efficient 50 percent from the floor.

Four Mustang starters recorded double-figures accounting for 53 of the visitor's 74 points—led by freshman Eliza Brault's 15 on 5-7 shooting and 4-7 from long-range.

The women slip on a two-game skid to 10-2 overall, 6-2 in conference action; the Mustangs extend their win streak to nine and improve to 12-1 overall, 8-1 atop the Yankee standings.
