PSUAC Semifinals: Mont Alto 3, Fayette 2
University Park, Pa.- Mont Alto volleyball faced off against a familiar foe on Monday evening, taking on Penn State Fayette with a trip to the PSUAC finals up for grabs. Mont Alto won the first two sets before dropping the next two, forcing a winner take all fifth set. Mont Alto controlled the fifth set from the start, winning set five 15-6. Mont Alto will face number one seed in the east division Penn State Hazleton at 6 pm from Rec Hall.
Mont Alto hit .290 as a team and held strong on defense forcing Fayette to hit -.044. The second set was even better offensively for Mont Alto. The team finished 10 of their 20 attack attempts for kills and held Fayette to a -.143 hitting percentage.
The third set was tied 22-22 following a kill from Nia Moore. Elizabeth Trella also capitalized on a set from Katie Sinks to push Mont Alto ahead 23-22. Fayette would go on to take the next three points to win set three 25-23.
Fayette seized the momentum in the fourth set by holding Mont Alto to a .075 hitting percentage on their way to a 25-16 set four win.
As Mont Alto has done plenty of times in the past, they corrected their mistakes when it mattered most. Mont Alto jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in the fifth set on a kill by Leslie Huckle. Huckle took control of the set for Mont Alto, recording the next three kills moving the lead to 10-2.
With the score 13-6, Mont Alto won the final two points on a service ace from Abigail Wagner and a kill from Zoey McCormack.
