Mustangs falls to SMCC in double OT... again!

South Portland, ME – Monday afternoon brought a tough matchup between the 5-1-1 CMCC Mustangs and the 7-0 SMCC Seawolves. A very well balanced game would leave both teams scoreless until double overtime, with SMCC getting the 1-0 win in with less than 30-seconds remaining.

Both teams were able to control the pace in the game with possession and great ball movement. Giving both teams equal chances to put the ball into the back of the net but neither team was awarded a goal leaving it 0-0 to end the first half.

Starting the second half both teams came out hard and with purpose. CM's Alexander Thompson, and Joel Maskiini would pick up yellows cards early, followed by Syohga Cusumano of SMCC receiving a yellow just before the end of regulation. Manuel Kiambuwa would pick up the 3rd yellow card for CM in the end of the first overtime.

The second overtime would be the fall for CMCC. In the 109th minute SMCC would be awarded a free kick where Yaroslav Philbrook would hit Nathan Tshibemba to tap the ball into the back of the net giving SMCC the 1-0 win.

After the game head coach, Bryan Wallace, commented, "It is a disappointing end to the game, but I'm not disappointed with how we played. We showed some real skill and adaptability in all areas of the field and gives us some good direction in how we should train for playoffs."
