Brandywine Returns To Win Column; Bests Vermont Tech

MEDIA, Pa. -- Less than 24 hours after seeing its six-game winning streak come to a close, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team got back into the win column following a 75-59 victory over Vermont Tech on Tuesday night.

Brandywine turned 25 offensive rebounds into 26 second-chance points and held a commanding 61-42 edge on the glass overall. The Lions also tallied 19 assists on 31 made field goals, while forcing 23 turnovers.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) produced 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) tallied 16 points after connecting on four three-pointers.

Amelia Brooks led the way on the boards with 10 rebounds and Dana D'Ambrosio (Secane, Pa./Ridley) grabbed eight, along with six points and five steals.

Brandywine opened up a 15-10 lead after one quarter and swelled the margin to 10 points less than three minutes into the second period behind a trio of three-pointers from Floyd and Velez.

The Knights were within nine with 30 seconds to play in the half, but a three-point play by Floyd followed by consecutive turnovers that resulted in a Madison D'Ambrosio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) free throw and another Floyd bucket sent Brandywine into intermission with a 39-24 edge.

Brandywine continued to pull away during the second half, moving in front by 21 points with two baskets by Madison D'Ambrosio and a Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) bucket during a 7-0 run that ballooned the lead to 21 points, the largest of the night.

Vermont Tech pulled within 13 points twice during the final 10 minutes, but Velez and Floyd answered with triples each time to keep the visitors at bay.

Madison D'Ambrosio chipped in 11 points and six boards for the Lions, who shot 36 percent and made 8-of-18 three-point attempts. Dairayonna Stewart-Harold (New Castle, Del./William Penn) tallied seven points and Ginamarie McNamee (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) collected seven rebounds.

Brandywine (9-4, 6-1 PSUAC) will begin a three-game road trip on Tuesday at Penn State York at 6:00 pm.
