Brandywine Rally Not Enough Against Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team nearly overcame a 22-point halftime deficit before falling 88-83 at Moravian on Saturday night.

The Greyhounds were red hot from the field during the opening 20 minutes, shooting 57 percent, while knocking down nine three-pointers. Moravian also forced 19 Brandywine turnovers in building its 55-33 edge at the break.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Brandywine had cut the Greyhounds' lead in half as a free throw from Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) made the count 61-50, capping a 17-6 run.

Moravian pushed its lead back to as much as 19 points and continued to front run by double figures until the final minutes.

Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) canned a jumper and Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) followed with three free throws to bring the deficit to single digits. Barrouk added five more points during the final 20 seconds, but it was not enough as Moravian held on to hand Brandywine its first loss.

Hockenbrock shot 10-of-17 from the field, pouring in a career-high 26 points, to pace the Lions' offensively. Barrouk added 21 points, while Dunson produced 18 points. Of Brandywine's 83 points, 79 came from its starting five.

Hockenbrock tallied 11 rebounds and collected three steals, while Barrouk pulled down six boards. Dunson notched five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Brandywine (1-1) will play on its home floor for the first time in 2022-23 on Tuesday when the Lions open conference play against Penn State York at 8:00 PM.
