Mont Alto Downs Brandywine In PSUAC Championship

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Top-seeded Penn State Mont Alto scored quick-strike goals during each half and defeated No. 2 Penn State Brandywine 5-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Panzer Stadium.

Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) made nine saves for the Lions, who were appearing in their sixth PSUAC Championship during the last seven seasons.

Dorvilma kept the match scoreless until Lacey Daum struck for Mont Alto during the 23rd minute. Just 54 seconds later, the top seed doubled the lead with a goal from Rachel Merrill and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Alexis Mariano netted two markers in a span of 22 seconds early in the second period and assisted on Madison Eberly's 68th-minute goal that capped the scoring.

Brandywine recorded two shots, both in the second half off the foot of Gia Cetroni (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West).

Brandywine finished its season with a record of 8-7 after winning all six of its matches during the month of October. The Lions have now played in six PSUAC championships during their seven seasons as a varsity program, winning four.
