Mont Alto softball one win away from title appearance

PSUAC Softball Tournament: Penn State Mont Alto 9, Penn State New Kensington 3

 

Penn State Mont Alto utilized big innings in the fourth and sixth to pull away from Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Pool Two finale. 

 

The Penn State Mont Alto facility and operations team worked well over seven hours to get the Mont Alto softball field to playable conditions after an inch of rain fell in Mont Alto over the last 24 hours. 

 

New Kensington struck first as they scored three runs in the second inning to build an early 3-0 advantage. The big hit in the inning was a Zoe King single down the right field line which scored two runners.

 

Mont Alto would cut into the lead when McKenna Sas scored two runs on her double to right center field. They would take the lead following RBI hits from Sierra Sims, Kirsten Dell and McKenna Sas in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

 

Destiny Hall, Skye Herring and Abigail Cunningham each recorded RBI's in the bottom of the sixth inning to build a 9-3 advantage after six innings of play. Mont Alto would advance to the Pool Two finale following a shutout in the top of the seventh inning.

Up Next: The PSUAC will decide no later than Tuesday as to the next steps to crown a champion next Monday and release a schedule for the remainder of the playoffs.
