Schuylkill Tops Brandywine 71-65

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was defeated in its second-straight outing, falling 71-65 to Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday night.

Schuylkill held a 15-9 lead midway through the first-half, but Brandywine ripped off 11-straight points, aided by a three-pointer from A.J. Dreger (Newtown Square, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and consecutive three-point plays from Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth).

The visitors answered Brandywine's run with six consecutive points and took a 30-27 lead into halftime when Devin Adams drained a long triple just before the buzzer.

Faced with a nine-point deficit early in the second half, Brandywine received points from five different players during a 11-4 spurt that trimmed the margin to 52-50 with 8:42 to play.

Following Johnta Dunson's (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) basket that cut the Lions' deficit to two points, Schuylkill countered with with 10-straight points to build a double-figure lead for the first time.

Trailing 68-58 with 1:38 to go, Dunson scored the Lions' next seven points as Brandywine climbed within four with 45 seconds on the clock.

Schuylkill made just two-of-six free throws during the final 43 seconds, but Brandywine was unable to capitalize, coming up empty during its final three offensive possessions.

Dunson scored 17 of high career-high 24 points during the second half and shot 10-for-14 from the field overall, while also grabbing nine rebounds. Dreger added 15 points, while Hockenbrock tallied eight and Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) chipped in with seven points. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) pulled in a team-high 12 rebounds.

Brandywine (13-9, 12-4 PSUAC) continues its three-game homestand Friday against Penn State Mont Alto at 8:00 PM.
