Men's Basketball Blows by Penn State Hazleton on Senior Day

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA - Ryan Worrell (Leesport, PA / Schuylkill Valley High School) was honored for Senior Day ahead of Saturday's 80-62 victory over PSUAC opponent Penn State Hazleton.

Schuylkill got out to a 4-0 lead early in the contest and held on to their lead until the final minutes in the half. Hazleton came within a point of several times throughout the half and tied the game on three different occasions. A made jump shot with 2:34 to go in the half gave Hazleton the lead at 29-27. Schuylkill retook the lead on the very next possession on a made 3-point basket by Worrell. Brandywine then went on a 5-1 stretch to take a 34-31 lead heading into the final half of play.

A 9-0 Schuylkill run to begin the half forced a Hazleton timeout with 17:27 to go in regulation. Up 40-34 out of the timeout, Schuylkill outscored Hazleton 8-5 to gain their biggest lead up to that point at 48-39.

A made 3-point basket by Bryce Hensley (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain High School) extended Schuylkill's lead to 61-46. Out of a Hazleton timeout, Schuylkill went on a 12-4 run highlighted by 10 points from Wilvens Fleurizard (Tamarac, FL / Coral Springs High School) to take a 73-50 lead with 6:44 to play. Schuylkill held on their lead as they went on to defeat Hazleton.

Schuylkill outscored Hazleton 49-28 in the second half while shooting 60 percent from the field. Schuylkill was also strong on the defensive end in the final half, holding Hazleton to just 34 percent from the field and coming up 11 steals, forcing 14 turnovers.

Fleurizard led Schuylkill with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Hensley added 16 points off the bench. Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Cantonsville High School) finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Schuylkill (15-14. 14-4 PSUAC) will compete in their final regular season of the contest against PSUAC opponent Penn State York. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
