Crusaders Take Down Lions 60-53

Front Royal, VA – Christendom Crusaders Women's Basketball was triumphant in their home opener vs. Penn State York, 60-53 on Tuesday, November 22.

Despite, falling behind early, the Crusaders quickly came back with the help of multiple baskets from Catherine Thomas (Sophomore/Corpus Christi, TX). The score remained close for the majority of the second quarter, but the Crusaders picked up their aggression even more and were able to extend their lead with a three from captain Kate Walz (Senior/Baltimore, MD). PSU York closed the gap before the half leading an even 33-33 score midway through the game.

The Crusaders lost momentum in the third quarter, allowing the Lions to take a 1-point advantage. Both teams fought hard for the lead in the fourth quarter. With less than 5 minutes to play, Thomas was able to bury a crucial three to secure the lead. As the game came to an end, the Crusaders strong together scoring possessions to give them breathing room. The final score was 60-53 the Crusaders defeating the Lions. With a great start to the season, the Crusaders advance to 2-0.

Miranda Keller (Sophomore/Harrisburg, PA) led the Crusaders with 19 points and 23 rebounds. Following Keller, Walz finished the game with 15 points and Thomas with 14 points as well as 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Regina Cousino (Freshman/Ann Arbor, MI) led the team with a total of 5 assists, followed by Regina Bonvissuto (Sophomore/Kingston Springs, TN) who ended with 4 assists.
