Balanced Attack Leads Volleyball Over Great Bay

Auburn, ME – Three different players registered seven kills for the Mustangs and all 11 players featured in the match, as the CMCC volleyball squad snapped a three match losing skid with a 3-0 win vs. Great Bay Community College.

Isabella Higgins, Natalie Roy, and Jaki Bartoschek each recorded seven kills while Shalamar Szarka and Keliah Stith both had great nights serving, with six and five aces respectively. The Mustangs round out the regular season with a 9-3 record in YSCC play, meaning they will host a first round playoff game as the #3 seed.

Stith delivered two aces early in the first set to give CMCC a 12-8 lead. That grew throughout the set with Central Maine taking nine of the final 11 points to romp to a 25-13 first set victory.

The Mustangs then took eight straight points early in set number two for 13-4 lead. A pair of Bartoschek kills set the stage for a Ryleigh Clark ace to close things out for a 25-11 win.

The Herons showed some fight in the third set as they tried to prolong the game. Great Bay opened with an 8-6 lead before CMCC got back into its groove. Kills by Higgins and Autumn Peterson along with a few Szarka aces saw the Mustangs take 16 of the next 18 points to put the match beyond doubt. Even a string of six straight attack errors did not threaten the hosts too much before Higgins put the game away for a 25-17 win.

CMCC's all first-year team finishes the regular season with a 9-5 record. The Mustangs will host the #6 seed Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Panthers in the first round of the YSCC Tournament.
