MANHATTAN, N.Y. - The Vaughn College Phoenix faced off against the Narwhals of The New School in their season opener at Randall's Island.
The Narwhals opened the scoring early, converting a penalty kick in the 7th minute to take a 1-0 lead. They extended their advantage to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 24th minute, putting the Phoenix under pressure.
Despite the challenging start, Vaughn showed resilience in the second half. Faris Abdelhady scored in the 63rd minute, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 with a strong unassisted effort. Just minutes later, Dexter Jacquet leveled the match at 2-2, capitalizing on a blocked penalty and igniting the team.
In a dramatic finish, however, the Narwhals managed to net a last-minute goal in the 88th minute, sealing the victory at 3-2.
The Phoenix put forth a commendable offensive effort, tallying 13 shots compared to the Narwhals' 15, showcasing determination throughout the match. Vaughn will look to get their first win of the season as they prepare for their next challenge on the road against Webb Institute on Thursday, September 19.
