Women's Basketball routs Lyndon in season-opener

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs wasted no time in their season-opener against NVU-Lyndon (NCAA DIII), racing out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and never looking back. The Hornets were overwhelmed by the depth, pressure, and pace of the Mustangs squad that started fast and did not slow down on their way to the 88-43 win.

Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) netted a game-high 18 points to go along with 7 steals. Luna Love (Zwolle, Netherlands) and Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) each finished with 11 points. Smedberg pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds while love dished out 5 assists. Cyla Moore (W. Palm Beach, FL) scored 12 points off the bench on an efficient 6-7 shooting. Kali Thompson (Waterville, ME) handed out a game-high 6 assists.

Maria Schlegel led the Hornets with 10-points, their lone scorer in double-figures.

The Mustangs forced 44 Hornet turnovers while winning the battle in the paint by being +12 on the boards.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 1-0 and will be back in action with a weekend double-header. Saturday kicks-off the renewed Can-Am Tournament that has been absent since the fall of 2019. On Saturday, CM will host University of New Brunswick - St. John at 6:00pm, and will turnaround and play Champlain-St. Lawrence at SMCC (South Portland, ME) on Sunday at 10:00am.
