Mustangs and Seawolves play to a draw

Auburn, ME - Anytime Central Maine and Southern Maine are playing you can count on a entertaining and physical game with both teams leaving all their energy on the field.   This one was no exception.   Both teams entered the contest with larger, improved rosters from last year so expectations were high from both sides and this early season matchup did not disappoint as both teams came out with a lot of energy.

The Mustangs struck first just after the 9 minute mark when freshman Emma Knowles (Manchester, ME) finished off a cross by Emma Johnson (Monmouth, ME) to put Central Maine up 1-0.    It didn't take long for the Seawolves to counter with Mackenzie Farnham breaking through the Mustang defense to knot the score up 1-1.    Almost midway through the first half Kaitlyn Baker (Skowhegan, ME) would put a long shot past the Southern Maine keeper to put Central Maine up 2-1 and that is how the half ended.

The second half began with Southern Maine taking control and five minutes into the half Paige St Pierre beat a Mustang defender down the right side to level the score at 2-2.    The rest of the game was fast paced and physical from one end to the other with both teams having good opportunities at each others net only to be denied by the defense and goalkeepers.    The game ended at 2-2 and the shot totals (14 for Southern Maine and 15 for Central Maine) for both sides were indicative of an evenly played match.   Mustang goalkeeper Allie Annear (Auburn, ME) made 8 saves on 10 shots on goal, while Seawolves keeper made 11 saves on 13 shots on goal.

The Mustangs head out on the road next weekend for a three-day road trip to Massachusetts and New York.
