BOBCATS TO OPEN NAIA PORTION OF SCHEDULE
(February 17, 2020) Tournament results and up-coming double header 02/02 vs Loyola University
After losing four straight in the "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Tournament, Coach Godlewski is optimistic as they enter the NAIA portion of their schedule.
"As expected, pitchers dominated our hitters as the team had very little practice time with live pitching coming into the event. Not to make excuses, the flu bug struck our team hard as key individuals were left home and others were weakened unknowingly upon departure. SID and Coach Hathaway has done a remarkable job tending to numerous players since our arrival and we expect more will be affected in the next few days." Head Coach Godlewski
Coach G refuses to use this as an outright excuse as Delgado and Pensacola's pitching dominated our hitters.
"This is my 8th consecutive year in the tourney, and I feel it is the best pitching we have faced over that time. We have a lot of work to do with our hitters, but there were several that showed good at bats throughout the four games." Head Coach Godlewski
Godlewski added "Pitching showed signs of being good at different times, but also control problems with others is a major concern. First pitch strikes were hard to come by and our pitchers' success will be determined by how well they can pitch to both sides of the plate. Again both Delgado and Pensacola's line ups we're strong and once our pitchers fell behind, their hitters had a feast."
Coach G shared he felt the fielders did fairly well considering 3 of the 4 games were under the lights.
Loyola University will be a tough couple of games as they are off to a very good start. They just split a double- header with a top-ten ranked NAIA team, and the Bobcats will have their hands full. It doesn't get any easier with William Carey and Talladega wrapping up the two week road trip. The Bobcats are up for it as the attitudes remain positive as Coach consistently relays it's all a process and emphasizes once the guys buy into it (trusting the process) they become stronger.
Double header vs Loyola starts at 6 p.m. EST with Brian Blackburn as starting pitcher of game. Watch livestream here. Scroll downthe schedule to the game!
