Baseball Sweeps Friday Twinbill Against Allegany

HAMPTON - The Apprentice School baseball team swept Allegany College of Maryland Friday afternoon in a pair of tight contests at War Memorial Stadium.

GAME 1 - AS 4, ACM 1

Allegany notched the first run of the day in the top of the second, manufacturing a run after a leadoff walk, but the Builders answered back as they broke through in the fifth. Nate Yeary got things started by pushing Hunter Johnson across on an error by the Trojan third baseman just before Isaac McCallister legged out an infield single that plated two runs and pushed the Apprentice lead to 3-1.

The home team pushed one more across in the sixth on a throwing error by the Allegany catcher to get to the final score.

Nick Redman (2-0) earned the win, throwing the complete game and allowing just one hit while fanning 10.

GAME 2 - AS 6, ACM 4

Again, the Trojans took the early lead, using a pair of RBI singles in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead, but Apprentice answered in the bottom half of the inning. Camden Weston singled to plate McCallister, while Jeremy Harmon had a RBI single with the bases loaded that tied the game at 2-2.

The bats went quiet until the fourth inning when Matt Phoebus singled to score Harmon and give Apprentice the 3-2 lead. Two batters later, McCallister hit a sacrifice fly to score Phoebus, followed by Yeary scoring on a wild pitch that extended the lead to 5-2.

After the Trojans scored twice in the fifth, the Builders got a key insurance run off a Weston double to seal the doubleheader sweep.

Logan Earley (1-1) got the win, going five innings, while Logan Mize earned his second save of the young season.
