Perry, Women's Basketball Picks up Program's First Win, 69-64 over Fisher
BUFFALO, NY - The Bryant & Stratton Buffalo women's basketball team used a big third quarter to pick up the program's first ever victory on Saturday night, 69-64 over Fisher College inside the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. BSC Buffalo led by as many as 18 in the third quarter en route to a season-opening statement win.
BUFFALO, NY -The Bryant & Stratton Buffalo women's basketball team used a big third quarter to pick up the program's first ever victory on Saturday night, 69-64 over Fisher College inside the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. BSC Buffalo led by as many as 18 in the third quarter en-route to a season-opening statement win.
Three players scored in double-figures with junior guard Alissa Johnson leading the way with 21 points and six rebounds. She connected on 6-of-10 field goals and all three of her long-range attempts. Johnson scored a game-high 21 in just 23 minutes. She was 6-of-8 at the free throw line and also added four offensive rebounds and two steals. Senior guard Janae Brannon and sophomore Danyea Barclay scored 14 and 10 points respectively. Brannon had a double-double with 11 rebounds while also totaling five assists and steals. Barclay added nine rebounds and five steals as well.
THE FAST BREAK
- Johnson scored the program's first two points with a jump shot just 32 seconds in the game to take a 2-0 lead. She scored BSC Buffalo's first five points of the game.
- After falling behind 6-5, the Bobcats used an 8-2 run capped by a Barclay offensive rebound and put-back, the take a 13-7 lead.
- BSC Buffalo held a 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Fisher was able to regain the lead with 4:44 left in the first half after Misha O'Neal connected on a three pointer to put the Falcons up 25-22.
- That lead increased to five before the Bobcats finished the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 30-27 lead into the locker room.
- After Fisher opened the half with a bucket, Johnson scored the next five points for BSC Buffalo.
- Fisher was once again able to regain the lead, 38-37 with 5:42 left in the third quarter.
- The Bobcats then went on a 19-2 run which lasted into the opening moments of the fourth quarter, giving the Bobcats a 56-40 lead. Brannon started the run with a jump shot before Barclay gave the lead back to BSC Buffalo 41-40. Johnson drilled another three moments later. She made her final triple to increase the lead to 53-40 with 1:08 left in the quarter before sophomore Demerika Mosley capped the run in the opening moments of the fourth quarter.
- Fisher would not go away despite as much as an 18-point deficit, but the Bobcats were able to hang on for the season-opening victory.
BOBCAT NOTES
- The Bobcat bench outscored that of the Falcons 34-14. Brannon and Barclay combined for 24 while Tealaya Huff added six points and Shannon Bandoo scored four.
- Freshman Mecca Odell Camille played 27 minutes after starting the game, and finished with seven points, eight rebounds and a block.
- Sophomore Demerika Mosley made her impact all over the floor. Scoring just six points, she added five steals, four rebounds and three assists.
- Freshman Alexus Pagan was a named a last minute starter for Coach Perry after a great week of practice. She played six minutes and made an impact all over the floor. She had two rebounds and a block.
- BSC Buffalo was 21-35 (60%) from the free throw line.
- The Bobcats won the battle on the boards (51-45) and turnovers (27-23).
- BSC Buffalo had 24 points off turnovers and 14 second chance points.
- The game featured four ties and eight lead changes.
WHAT THEY SAID
"To be able to win our first game and do it with a team effort is so special," BSC Buffalo Head Coach Brittnee Perry said. "Alissa (Johnson) was great tonight. She shot the ball with confidence and played very smart. Janae (Brannon) controlled our team and ran our group on both ends of the floor. It was a total team effort. We still obviously have a lot to clean up but it will be easier starting the season with a win."
UP NEXT
The Bobcats will remain at home for their next game when they host Bryant & Stratton Syracuse on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for BSC students with an ID, and free for kids 12 and under.
