Builders Have Strong Showing in Florida

The Apprentice School traveled down to Miami, Florida and won two out of three games against tough competition. They faced off against two NAIA opponents and one highly ranked USCAA foe. In each of the three games they were led in scoring by a different player.

Game #1 vs. USCAA #2 Florida National University:

The Builders had a great defensive effort, but struggled on the offensive end as they fell to the host team. Sophomore Forward Bryant Fuller led the team with 13 points and Freshman Guard Avin Hawkins chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Game #2 vs. University of the Virgin Islands:

The Apprentice School utilized an aggressive full-court pressing defense to disrupt the offensive flow for UVI and to limit production from their NCAA Division 1 transfer, Keith Gilmore. The Builders raced out to a 40-26 halftime lead and Vershawn Eley and Bryant Fuller hit timely threes to ice the game late in the second half. The Builders ended their four-game losing streak with the tightly contested 61-60 victory. Sophomore Caleb Mielewski led the team with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Point Guard Corey Joyner had 8 rebounds and 7 assists.

Game #3 vs. USCAA #5 Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo)

The Builders had their best offensive game in a few weeks and connected on 8 of 17 3-pointers to defeat The Bobcats 84-79. Vershawn Eley had the best game of his young career, coming off the bench to score 19 points and collecting 5 offensive rebounds. Drew Walton was just shy of a double-double, with a solid 11 point and 9 rebound game. A timely second half press aided in forcing The Bobcats into 20 turnovers.
