Men's Basketball Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker in USCAA Semifinals

PETERSBURG, Va. - The Apprentice School men's basketball team fell Wednesday morning in the USCAA National Semifinals to Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo), 77-75, in double overtime.

The Builders and Bobcats went back-and-forth through the opening 10 minutes, but Apprentice began to impose their will, going on a 21-2 run to end the first half and lead, 37-21, at the break.

From there, BSC started to battle back, eventually tying the game at 54-54 with 1:02 left in regulation. After neither team could find an advantage by the second period horn, overtime ensued, where again, neither team gained an advantage.

In double overtime, the Bobcats took an early lead, but Apprentice would battle back to cut the lead to two with 42 seconds left. After a defensive stop, the Builders had a three pointer at the buzzer bounce off the rim and out, giving BSC a spot in tomorrow's national championship game.

  • Shawn Eley led all scorers, recording a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The Builders outrebounded BSC, 52-42, including pulling down 20 offensive rebounds.
  • On the season, the Builders finished with a 21-8 record, the second most wins in program history.
