LYNCHBURG, Va. - Ashawnti Williams put up a team-high 18 points as The Apprentice School women's basketball team opened the season Tuesday night with a 68-48 loss to Randolph.
The Builders had a slow start offensively, trailing by as many as 16 points before headed into the half down 25-11. Coming out of halftime, however, Apprentice saw shots start to fall as the Builders trimmed the lead down to 12 on a pair of occasions.
The Wildcats would extend their lead over the course of the fourth quarter, but the Builders hung tough, tying the fourth quarter score at 19-19 to finish at the 20-point deficit.

- Williams's 18 points came on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor.
- Jada Bryant also finished in double figures with 11.
- Amaya Ray was two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Apprentice will be on the road Saturday at Central Carolina before a trip to Carolina Christian on Sunday.
