Williamson returned home Tuesday night and wasted little time in grabbing an early lead against Lehigh Carbon Community College before eventually finding themselves down 2-1 in the first half. They eventually tied things up at 2-2 before the break. They then used a 3-goal outburst early in the second half to pull away but still had to hang on at the end in a thrilling 6-4 victory over the Cougars.
Marco Karasavas got Williamson on the board just 1:10 into the game on a gorgeous end to end run to put Williamson up 1-0. Lehigh Carbon though would come back with two goals by Ebrima Bey just 2:10 apart to go up 2-1. Jonathan Illing would score the first of his two goals for Williamson on a beautiful run, as he beat several defenders to tie things at 2-2 at the half.
Williamson then exploded for three goals to start the second half, two of which were under two minutes apart, to go up 5-2. Giorgios Karasavas scored at the 38:26 mark on a assist from Richard Lusch, followed by a goal at the 36:32 mark by Jonathan Illing on an incredible free kick from 27 yards away. Jorge Almaguer then scored his first collegiate goal at eh 23:12 mark off an assist from Colin Catrambone to put the Mechanics up by three.
Lehigh Carbon however, was far from done. They cam storming back with a goal from Isaac Frey at the 16:10 mark and then from John Nakata at the 10:23 mark to pull to within one. Matthew Burget then scored his first collegiate goal at the 7:10 mark off an assist from Illing to close out the scoring and give Williamson the breathing room it needed to hold on for the win.
If someone were to look for a star of the game, one would need to look no further than freshman goal Aaron O'Keeffe, as he made several incredible saves to keep the Cougars at bey. Williamson's back lie of Dylan Burke, Rob Wagner, Daniel Andre and James Bryan also played an incredible game, as the Cougars pressure was relentless.
"I'm proud of our guys. We fought and did what we needed to do to win. It wasn't easy, but it was a nice win and should give us some momentum heading into Thursday's game at Penn State Hazelton," shared Williamson head coach Peter Glowa. "It is always good to bounce back from a loss with a win."
Williamson hits the road Thursday against PSU Hazelton, then again on Saturday against a tough Patrick Henry squad. They then travel to Central Penn on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday, September 19 to take on Bucks County.
