St. Mary of the Woods Wins 2019 USCAA Golf Championship
St. Mary of the Woods wins its second straight USCAA Golf Championship on Tuesday in State College, Pa.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – After a day of rain, the 2019 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championships took to the Penn State Blue Course on Tuesday and St. Mary of the Woods came through with its second straight national title.
The Pomeroys, riding a three-under-par 69 by tournament medalist Colton Kuppler, totaled a 292 on Tuesday to win the championship by two strokes over SUNY Delhi. Bluefield State was third (305), with Penn State Lehigh Valley (308) and Mississippi University for Women (310) rounding out the top five.
Austin Saylor of The Apprentice School was second individually with a 70, Christian Galdeano of Bluefield State and Ryan Rothdiener of NHTI tied for third with 71. Fifth place at even-par 72 was a five-way tie between Zach Barrett, Danny Cristy, Alex Fisher and Aaron Oliver from SUNY Delhi and Nathan Higbie of St. Mary of the Woods.
The top seven including ties were named first team USCAA All-Americans, while the next seven and ties were second team selections.
The women's individual championship was won by Kathryn McCarthy of Penn State Schuylkill who recorded a 96.
Following the event, the annual USCAA Awards were presented and Kuppler made it a clean sweep as he was named Student-Athlete of the Year and NHTI's Mike Seraikas was named Coach of the Year.
