Penn State Shenango to Join USCAA in 2018-19
NORFOLK, VA - The USCAA officially welcomes Penn State Shenango to the association after being confirmed by the Board of Directors in early January.
Located in Sharon, Pennsylvania, Penn State Shenango is a commonwealth campus of Penn State University established in 1965. The institution was previously a member of the USCAA for men’s golf until 2012 when the team was discontinued. In addition to rejoining the USCAA, Shenango will return to the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and begin competing in men’s basketball in 2018-19 and women’s volleyball in 2019.
“On behalf of the entire Administration and Athletic Department here at Penn State Shenenago we are delighted in accepting membership into the USCAA,” remarked Penn State Shenango Athletic Director Andre Smith. “This will allow us to compete and associate with similar institutions with great academic profiles and excellent values. It will also allow our student-athletes the full rights to compete in post season tournaments and to be eligible for all applicable awards.”
Penn State Shenango has a student population close to 600 and offers six baccalaureate and five associate degrees on campus. In addition, the school offers the first two years of classes for over 160 Penn State University degree programs. Shengano emphasizes individual attention to students through small class sizes, award-winning faculty, and a host of leadership opportunities coupled together with a Penn State University academic experience.
“We are delighted with the return of Penn State Shenango to the USCAA and the chance to offer their program opportunities for student-athlete recognition,” states USCAA Executive Director Matthew Simms. “Under the direction of Andre Smith, we are confident that this program has the road map to growth and development.”
The admission of Penn State Shenango gives the USCAA 14 Penn State University commonwealth campuses in the association’s membership. In addition, the school marks the second new member for the 2018-19 academic year, following acceptance of Bryant & Stratton College-Liverpool during the fall semester.
